Birth of Venus Original painting

48'' x 60'' oil on canvas

Of all my paintings, this one holds a special place for me. The title comes from the Greco/Roman myth of Venus being born after a great battle between Cronos and his father, Uranus. Uranus was severed and his body was foamed into the sea. What emerged from the foam was a fully formed beautiful woman, Venus, the Goddess of Love, Harmony, and Beauty.

The sperm whales at the bottom of the painting represent the foam that formed to create her. The embryo on the right side is representing the re-birth and birth cycle.
